Willem Boonk studied Dutch law at Utrecht University. During his studies, he also studied Italian law in Bologna for one year. After his graduation from Utrecht University in 2004, he went on to study at King’s College London, where he specialized in (inter alia) the law of carriage of goods by sea and international trade law. He graduated from King’s College with an LL.M. degree in 2005.
Willem was admitted to the bar in the Netherlands in 2005 and joined Smallegange in May 2015.
Willem advises clients and litigates in cases involving international trade, transport and insurance. His cases include charter party disputes, cargo claims, personal injury cases, international trade disputes and trade mark cases. His clients include trading companies, carriers, logistics services providers, shipowners and (P&I) insurers.
In addition to his work as a practicing lawyer, Willem is a member of the editorial board of maritime law reports journal “Schip & Schade”, an active member of the Dutch Transport Law Association and treasurer of the Dutch Transport Lawyers Association. He regularly gives workshops and lectures on the areas of law he specializes in. Also, he is an occasional guest lecturer at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam.
Willem is able to advise his clients in Dutch, English or German.
Willem Boonk has registered the following principal (and secondary) legal practice areas in the Netherlands Bar’s register of legal practice areas (rechtsgebiedenregister):
- Transport and trade law
Based on this registration, he is required to obtain ten training credits per calendar year in each registered principal legal practice area in accordance with the standards set by the Netherlands Bar.
